May has been an interesting month for me in terms of beauty. I’m still doing my skincare routines like normal but I’ve been experimenting with different application techniques a bit. For example, using more hydrating primers and reaching for powder foundation. Doing those things have helped my makeup last a bit longer and keeps it from rubbing completely off under a mask.
Surprisingly there haven’t been any fails for me this month! Everything that I’ve been using has been good to my skin. Keep reading to see my May favorites, including those that are new to me as well as those that I’ve been rediscovering in my stash.
As many have also experienced, wearing lipsticks haven’t been my focus because they come off on my mask. Instead I’ve been reaching for my lip glosses a whole lot more. From tinted to clear, sheer to pigmented, lip gloss has been my go to. It’s easier to reapply without having to use a mirror and I don’t have to use a liner. Win-win for me.
Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation – 5N
This is fairly new to my collection and I’m loving it already. Even though I don’t wear foundation every day that I have to go to work, I still find myself reaching for this one because it looks so natural. Plus its lightweight even in the areas that I have to build up for more coverage. Read more about my review on it here.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – Amande
This isn’t a new product but I did repurchase it during the Sephora Spring sale. I’ve tried several concealers and always come back to this. The coverage is what I need, it looks smooth asf when blended out, and the color match is spot on. Buy it here, here, or here.
Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation – Y505
One day I woke up late for work and had less than 10 minutes to do my face. After doing my eyebrows I needed something that would give me coverage and set my concealer in place. I picked up this powder foundation after spot concealing and my face was done in 5 minutes. It stayed on my face all day and there was minimal transfer to my mask.
My only gripe with this (not a fault with the product) is that since I haven’t been going outside as much as normal, the shade isn’t an exact match anymore. I was looking a little oompa loompa-ish and am considering buying the previous shade, 455. Once I get a little more tanned, I can see Y505 being my go-to product for the warmer months. You can get it here or here.
Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb
I know I’m late to game with this one but I picked this up in the Sephora Spring sale and am absolutely in love. The moisturizer I was using previously, Elf’s Hello! Hydration, had started breaking me out so I started using this instead. I apply at the end of my evening skincare routine and it makes my skin feel so soft and it remains hydrated throughout the night.
First Aid Beauty Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Broad Spectrum
This is my first time buying a mineral sunscreen and I was fully prepared to return it if it didn’t work out. The sunscreen has a slight tint to it so it won’t leave you with a white cast. It wears well by itself and under makeup, has no fragrance, and feels weightless on the skin as the name implies. This item is no longer available to purchase.
The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid and BHA
I’ve purchased the hyaluronic acid several times these past couple of winters and decided to repurchase it because I like how my skin feels after applying. Also it absorbs quickly and isn’t sticky like other HA formulations. The BHA, however, is new to me and I can already tell a difference when I use it. The texture is similar to the HA: watery but not too thin and lightweight. There is no fragrance with either one and they pair well together. I alternate the BHA with my AHA serum at night so that I don’t over-exfoliate. Buy both here.
Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner
This is absolutely, hands down my favorite toner to-date. I apply it every morning and night and love how hydrating it makes my skin feel in addition to the other hydrating products I use. Buy it here.
When I’m not working, I play on the Wii U. Besides Mario Kart and New Super Luigi, y’all I have been hooked on Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. My youngest son has been helping me to understand the game and helping with the larger battles but I’m addicted. I limit myself to playing on the weekends and some weeknights if I don’t have to go into the office the next day. If you still have a Wii U, consider getting this game. It’s a good way to escape reality momentarily.
Share below any thoughts you have on any of the products I listed here. I’d like to hear from you guys on what your May favorites and fails were. Also let me know if you want to see further reviews on any the products mentioned. I have a few coming on the MUFE powder and the Nars concealer.
In addition to everything with Covid-19, I have been completely devastated by the recent senseless murders around the country. It has been challenging for me to continue doing what I love while people who look like me are rightfully hurting.
