My Glowy AF Daytime Skincare Routine

daytime skincare routine

Since working from home has become a regular thing as of late, my skincare routine takes priority. I’ve been really loving how my skin has been glowing lately and want to share my current daytime skincare routine. Keep reading to see my current products.

Skin type: combination skin with an oily t-zone and normal everywhere else

Skin issues: hyperpigmentation leftover from hormonal acne and a sudden reaction to dairy

Micellar water

After brushing my teeth I apply a micellar water either from La Roche Posay or Simple on a reusable cotton pad and sweep it all around my face. I never dry my face with a towel or washcloth; I’ll let it air dry or if I’m in a rush I’ll just go in with the next product.

Hydrating toner

Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner is my boo. It is free of alcohol, actives, and fragrances and does a great job at hydrating my skin. I apply it by putting a few drops on my fingertips and lightly patting it onto my skin.

TJ's rose toner

My backup/alternative is the Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner (not available online). It smells like roses (duh) but it’s not too heavy. I spray it on my face and lightly pat it in.

Vitamin C serum

My skin loves a good vitamin C serum, specifically Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum. After using this I’m left with a bright, more evened out tone that I hadn’t seen since my 20s. I absolutely love the serum, eye cream, and moisturizer and highly recommend trying them if you’re not sensitive to fragrance. Sephora sells a set with all three products for less than $40.

Following my vitamin C above, next I’ll go in with my Ole Henriksen C-Rush Brightening Gel Creme. The full size is $45 and well worth it in my opinion. I would even go as far to say that this is my holy grail moisturizer. It’s lightweight and wears well under makeup and days when I’m not wearing makeup it leaves me with a gorgeous glow. Plus it smells like orange sherbet.

Coola Classic Face Sunscreen SPF50 Unscented, Glossier’s Invisible Shield with spf 35, and Krave Beauty’s The Beet Shield (no longer available) are my faves. My only complaint with all of them is that they don’t come in a bigger size. Neither product has broken me out, which is always a good thing. In addition to that, they’re both lightweight, don’t leave a white cast, absorb pretty quickly, and wear well alone and under makeup.

Honorable mentions: Black Girl Sunscreen with SPF 30 ($16, leaves me with too much shine for my liking) and CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30 ($13, takes too long to absorb).

Lip balm

Can’t forget the lips. When I’m finished with my face I apply Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask before starting with my makeup. It’s a bit thick and perfect for this time of year. By the time I’m finished, my lips are soft and ready for lipstick and/or gloss application.

That’s it. I bet you thought it was going to be more than that, didn’t you? In the mornings I try to keep it as simple as possible because most of my time goes towards makeup application and I don’t like getting up any earlier than I already do.
