I absolutely LOVE foundation. Part of what makes me love foundation so much is how flawless my skin looks after I apply it. I have a lot of hyper-pigmentation on my face left from when my body decided that it no longer tolerated dairy and took it out on my face. There were too many spots to only use concealer so I dove into the world of foundation.
Because I feel that foundation can make or break your look, I researched each one before purchasing to make sure it was right for what I wanted. I will share my current foundations and since not all of them are exact shade matches I’ll include how I make them work for me. I’ll also provide swatches of each one so you can see the range I’m working with.
I have a neutral undertone and fall in the Deep-Dark category if the shade range is done correctly. I have combination skin (oily t-zone, normal everywhere else) and prefer a natural finish but will go with a dewy finish in the winter and a matte finish in the summer. In no particular order, let’s go.
1. Cover FX Power Play in shade N90
This is my boo. It’s my perfect match and finish. I don’t have to do anything to make this one work. Plays well over my sunscreen and primers.
2. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless in shade 355 Coconut
As mentioned before I have a neutral undertone so when I apply this foundation by itself, I look like an oompa loompa. I mix a dime-sized drop of this with 1-2 pumps of the L.A. Girl blue foundation pigment before applying to my face. Once it’s blended in, *chef’s kiss*.
3. Milk Makeup Flex Foundation Stick in shade Maple
This is my first foundation stick and so far, so good. I feel that it’s a near-perfect match for me but tends to look warmer on me as the day goes on, so for that reason I usually skip bronzer when I wear this one.
4. Nars Natural Radiant Longwear in shade Macao
This is my other boo that I don’t have to manipulate to get it to work. It’s full coverage yet lightweight, has a dewy finish, and is an overall beautiful formula.
5. L’oreal Infallible Fresh Wear in shade 510 Hazelnut
L’oreal expanded the shade range but the shade I have is too warm for me. I have to use the blue foundation pigment with a pump of this but once I do it blends right into my skin.
6. Nyx Born to Glow in shade Mahogany
I think this one is a dupe for the Nars Radiant Longwear. It is also full coverage and a little goes a long way. And the shade match is almost spot on even though it looks super warm in the pic.
Here are all of them side by side:
